Der Lecher – a success story

At the beginning of the 1950s, it was a Willy’s Jeep that took holiday guests, for the first time since the war, over the Flexen Pass to Lech. Local joiners made an elegant wooden seating compartment especially for the purpose. The beginning of the 1960s saw the heyday of the VW Bully, a vehicle which proved to be both practical and suited to winter road conditions.

Der Lecher came into being at the beginning of the seventies after several taxi businesses joined forces. However, the actual roots go back further still: to time of the turn of the century. Back then, the “Der Lecher’s” ancestors transported goods locally with carts. However, they soon changed their line of business to the more lucrative transportation of people.

The winter sports saw the arrival of the first tourists. And with them, thousands of journeys from Langen railway station to Lech and Zürs. These journeys were made by horse-drawn carriage in accordance with old tradition.

However, the car brought a rapid change to Lech – and it turned into a business. Soon, more and more businesses were driving in competition with each other. Up until a good thirty years ago, when one single taxi business brought them all advantageously together under a new name: DER LECHER.

The founding fathers of DER LECHER are: Oskar Zimmermann, Josef Zimmermann, Tobias Bischof, Josef Bischof, Josef Walch Senior, Heinrich Walch, Wilhelm Walch from Lech – as well as Karl Kessler from Klösterle.
